Google Gemini Introduces Related Content and Verification Links

26 Jul, 2024

Google has rolled out a significant update to Gemini (formerly Bard), enhancing it with additional links to any related content and verification sources for the information provided.

This initiative aims to further Google’s efforts in minimising inaccuracies and simplifying the process of exploring educational websites. Currently, these features are available for English language prompts in specific regions, although my tests show they appear infrequently.

Users can now access more detailed information on various topics directly from Gemini’s responses. By clicking on the chip at the end of a paragraph, users can view websites for in-depth exploration of specific subjects.

Here’s an example of how it looks:

Google stated, “This enhancement builds upon our on-going efforts to reduce inaccuracies. Besides related content links, Gemini’s double-check feature verifies responses using Google Search, indicating which statements are supported or disputed online. For information that is contested, users can easily delve deeper to verify it themselves.”

Notably, Google Gemini introduced link citations over a year ago, but most were subsequently removed within the following year.

In addition, this update includes the expansion of Gemini to version 1.5 Flash, now available in over 40 languages and across more than 230 countries and territories. Gemini has also been extended to cater to teens and mobile app experiences.
