Google told victims of past search ranking updates including the September 2023 helpful content update that a new Google search ranking update is coming fairly or very soon, but if they were hit by the helpful content update, they should not expect to recover and most likely should move on to new things. Google held that Web Creator summit yesterday at the Google Plex.
Although we were not at the event, we came across several posts from site owners who were there. These are the same site owners that observed a notable decline in their sites following earlier core updates or the September 2023 helpful content update. They were invited to Google to personally address Danny Sullivan, the Google Search Liaison, many Google search engineers, including Pandu Nayak, a VP at Google Search, directly.
One of those artists, Morgan at Charleston Crafted, remarked on X stating that Google advised not expecting a recovery anytime soon if one were hit by HCU. She also said “they told us repeatedly an update is coming “very soon” and to not expect recovery.” She also clarified that any comments from this event won’t be included into that update. “If the feedback from this event is taken into consideration, it will not be this update OR the next one, MAYBE the next one,” she said.
Morgan later penned, “If you were attacked by HCU & depend on Google, MOVE ON. SOME of us MAY recover ONE DAY, but all would not and who knows when that would happen. Create a good. Source fresh visitors for your website. Employ yourself.
Here are those posts:
Mountain Weekly News founder Mike Hardaker gave a more thorough overview of what transpired at this event. He did this in his article; “I Drank the Kool-Aid at the 2024 Google Web Creator Summit” and meticulously recorded the occasion. These quotations particularly stood out.
He cited Pandu Nayak as saying:
He quoted Danny Sullivan as saying:
Furthermore one other thing Google claimed was that his content was not the problem. What was the problem then? This is the part:
We should so be shortly seeing Google publish a fresh search ranking update. Google is advising individuals affected by past updates not to expect to bounce back from this next update at the same time though. Given they are trying to promote this content, I suppose it’s better than Google advising people to have patience.
Here are more of Morgan’s entries; furthermore, see Mike’s article:
Update: Google’s Elizabeth Tucker (Not Liz Reid) was there as well.
